Yesterday we headed back to Willow Springs for the 7th round of the Roadster Cup at Streets of Willow (clockwise). With temperatures in the low-80s, this weather was a nice change from the lingering heat of the summer we’ve grown used to in the last few months. It was a great opportunity for new PBs and fast lap times. We had a field of 26 competitors with a few new faces and some changes on the podium, changes key to the results of the season championship since there’s only one round left. We can confidently say the competition for the overall championship is some of the the closest we’ve ever seen. Let’s see how yesterday shook up the championship!
Clay Phillips nudged Lehrick Leung off the podium by less than seven-tenths! He managed 3rd place with a 1:35.277. Andrew Russ took 2nd place with a 1:32.743. Enthusiast class victor, Kevin Eguchi, managed his first ever win with a 1:31.929.
Andrew Russ pulls into first place with 119 points, knocking Brandon into 2nd place, only one point away with 118 points. Clay Phillips remains in 3rd with 82 points.
Our heavily contested Street class had a close battle, as always. Zee Reid placed 3rd by running a 1:27.704 in his ND, Candace. Less than three-tenths off the win, Erik Brenner took 2nd place with a 1:26.853. Setting the only new record yesterday, Colin Bowman took the top spot on the podium by running a 1:26.597.
Zee remains in 1st place with 117 points. Erik remains in 2nd place with 111 points, but needs to step it up at the last round to keep Colin from taking 2nd place. Colin sits in 3rd with 110 points.
Modified had the most intense competition of all of the classes. 2nd-4th were only separated by about five-tenths of a second! Brian Ratte fought his way to his first podium by running a 1:27.635. Frankie Ho also managed his first podium by running a 1:27.376. Joseph Acuna who is no stranger to the Roadster Cup podium and an RC OG pulled off the win with a 1:26.995.
Chris Willard remains 1st place with 115 points. Joseph Acuna’s victory helped him pushed Sean Hopkins into 3rd place. Joseph is hot on Chris’ tail with 114 points. Sean is now in 3rd with 106 points.
Our Unlimited drivers gave us some blistering fast times! Thomas Anderson managed 3rd and his first podium (there were so many firsts this round!) with a 1:27.513. Jerry took 2nd place with a 1:24.195. Daryk broke into the 1:23’s (with 1:22’s on his predictive timing) in his Ecotec Miata leading him to 1st place in Unlimited. His time was a 1:23.614.
There aren’t any major changes to the overall championship in Unlimited. Jerry remains in 1st place with 128 points, Daryk remains 2nd place with 115 points, pushing Jeff Klavir stays 3rd with 83 points.
