Last Sunday was round 3 of Roadster Cup at Chuckwalla. Despite the event selling out quickly because it was a Roadster Cup, Vtec Club only competition day, we still had a field of about 30 drivers with a pretty even spread amongst each class. It was a warm day, but definitely not the hottest we’ve seen or will see this year. Despite that, it was a super fun and mellow, incident free day, which we always appreciate! Let’s see how the day panned out for everyone.
The battle for E class is continuing as anticipated, and is definitely not disappointing us! Despite only running one session and running on no sleep, Arik Crowe (not pictured) managed 3rd place with a 2:13.862. Brandon Morris pulled off 2nd place with a 2:11.529. The only person able to break a record yesterday was Andrew Russ (sorry, Zee!) who took 1st place in Enthusiast with a 2:10.983. Awesome job guys!
Brandon remains in 1st place with 68 points. Andrew was previously tied with Arik for 2nd place, but his victory has secured 2nd for him. He has 58 points. Arik sits in 3rd with 48 points. It’s still anyone’s championship!
The podium in Street class was pretty close and they’re also giving us a great battle to follow. Zee Reid pulled off 3rd place in his ND with a 2:08.846. Max Flaxman managed 2nd place with a 2:07.773. Erik Brenner stole the victory from Max by about 6 tenths with a 2:07.112. Look at that red car podium!
Max’s 2nd place finish pulled him into 1st place, beating out Zee (but not by much!). Max has 51 points, but he can’t get too comfortable. Erik’s victory pulled him into 2nd place with 50 points. Zee sits in 3rd with 48 points. The championship is only separated by 3 points right now so the next events are going to be crucial for each of them!
The Mod podium had a couple familiar faces with one newbie! In 3rd place we had Sean Hopkins of Tri-Point Engineering with a 2:07.838. Making his debut on the podium in 2nd place with a solid 2:06.290 was Michael Bassani. Chris Willard, also known as Mr. Time Attack, ran a 2:05.536 making him the Mod class victor.
Sean remains in 1st with 58 points. Chris Willard remains in 2nd place with 50 points. Michael Bassani pulled ahead of Joseph Acuna with 36 points, but Joseph is still lurking behind him with 34 points.
Last, but not least, is our Unlimited class. Jeff Klavir placed 3rd with a 2:02.895 (not pictured). Daryk Arden was able to beat Jeff for 2nd by putting down a 2:02.685. With the fastest time of the day in Roadster Cup, Jerry pulled off the Unlimited class victory with a 2:01.346 (and was only about 2 hundredths off of the fastest time of the day for the entire track event!).
Jeff Klavir remains in 1st with 58 points, but Jerry is on his tail in 2nd place with 55 points. Daryk pulled into 3rd place with 42 points.
We can’t forget to mention the most important part of the event, the raffle after the awards ceremony! We raffled some swag bags from Koyorad, a pair of Sparco gloves, a free track day, and an oil cooler from Koyorad. Congrats to those lucky people!
A huge thanks again to everyone who made the trek out to Chuckwalla for this event. Roadster Cup wouldn’t be what it is without our amazing drivers, sponsors, and supporters. A special thank you to Alex and Scott at Koyorad and Brad from StopTech who came out to support and hang with us!
